the work of the Lord, the obstacles before us are never as great as the power behind us." Elder Dallin H. Oaks
Access email with another program or service (POP3)
Many email programs, such as, Hotmail and Gmail will allow you to retrieve messages from another email address using a process called POP3. Look through your options for mentions of POP3 or Mail Retrieval. Once you find it, you will likely see some or all of the following configuration options:
- Mail Server or Incoming Mail Server: Enter mail.byui.edu
- Outgoing Mail Server or SMTP Server: Server used for sending e-mail. Note: BYU-Idaho does not support the sending of mail from this type of service. You can either fill this in with the mail server of an ISP (e.g. mail.yahoo.com) or check with your ISP for the correct server name.
- E-mail address: This is the BYU-Idaho e-mail address from which you wish to retrieve mail.
- Username or Account Name: If you are a student, enter the word students, your Net ID, and the first part of your e-mail address separated by forward slashes (e.g. students/netid/smi02005). If you are an employee, enter byui, your Net ID, and the first part of your email address separated by forward slashes (e.g. byui/netid/smithq).
- Password: This is the password associated with your BYU-Idaho Net ID.
- Leave copy of messages on server: By default, POP3 will extract your e-mail messages from your BYU-Idaho mailbox. If the option is available, you may want to leave a copy of the messages on the server so that you can still access them through the BYU-Idaho e-mail website.
- Retrieve new messages only: If this option is available, you will likely want to select it. Otherwise you may receive multiple copies of each of your messages.
If your mail is not retrieved automatically once your configuration is complete, look for an option to Send/Receive or Check Mail.
