Student E-mail

BYU-I  now uses Outlook Live for student e-mail. However, this will soon as the school migrates to Outlook 365. Your old email will continue to work but will be seperate from your school email.

If you are accessing your account for the first time, you will be promted to select a time zone. We reccommend that you choose the time zone where you are primarily attending school. For most students this will be Rexburg, Idaho (Mountain Time GMT -7:00)

If you prefer to use other e-mail applications such as Outlook Express, Windows Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird, Entourage, or Mac Mail rather than the university's e-mail portal, then refer to Microsoft's support site to find out how to synchronize your preferred application with your BYU-Idaho e-mail account.

In addition, you will now be able to access your e-mail account on your smart phone

In early June 2012, Windows Live rolled out enhanced security requirements impacting Live@edu end users.

The enhanced security requirements include two primary adjustments:

Users are required to have secondary authentication for the Live@edu account

Users may be prompted to change passwords that do not meet standard security thresholds

The secondary authentication requirements are either an alternate e-mail address, phone number or trusted PC. Users will be prompted for enhanced security at sign in to any Windows Live service. Users will not be prompted if using Microsoft Office Outlook or a mobile device. Read about secondary authentication requirements. In certain situations, an end user may be prompted to change their password if it is not a strong password . A strong password contains 7-16 characters, does not include common words or names, and combines uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers and symbols. Live@edu recommends that end users have a strong password. Read the latest Microsoft Security article for more information on validating and creating strong passwords.
