TESTIMONIALS

"I love to teach, and when I caught wind of an opportunity to be a facilitator I thought it would be a great learning opportunity. . . The course is not just about those three foundation principles. The course, the entire program, is about building people into disciples of Christ. It is about recognizing a persons potential, no matter who they are or what they have been through. I don't know how to adequately convey the feeling in my heart, that deep sense of humility that comes when you realize it is not about you. It motivates me to serve and to do my best so that others can have what I have. I have learned that to be apart of something larger than myself and to help and lift others brings blessings you can't imagine. Simple blessings like joy and love and gratitude, but in amounts you never dreamed. I love all the people I had the blessing of associating with in the program. They are the kind of people that life me and raise my sights."

"It's hard to adequately describe what the Heber J. Grant program has done for me. I applied for the scholarship at the suggestion of my seminary teacher who was aware of the difficult circumstances in which I grew up. Thinking that I'd only receive money, I never realized the opportunities that awaited me, changing my life and making me a more devout disciple of Christ. I've been held accountable for the first time in my life for my learning, thereby making it more meaningful and lasting. As I've been prepared for class each day, I've become more self-reliant, responsible, and confident, which things were lacking in my character. As I teach my peers and strive to have God-like charity and concern for them, I've utilized the Learning Model in ways that I think would be pleasing to the leaders of this university and the Lord, and I've grown tremendously in preparation for a mission that I hope to serve one day. Most of all, I've come to a greater appreciation of the Holy Ghost, of raising my personal bar, and of continuing to overcome the hardships I faced by making wonderful things happen in my life in spite of them. This program is incredible and exemplifies the great proverb: 'Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.' I have been fed for a lifetime, an eternity even, and I'm so grateful."

"The Heber J. Grant Life Skills course has enhanced my learning experience here at BYU-Idaho. I know how to be a more effective teacher, leader, and learner. It has taught me to be better prepared for my life ahead. The three key principles (self reliance, stewardship, and replenishment) have helped me become a better disciple of Jesus Christ. This program, I know, is inspired. It will take BYU-Idaho where it has never been before with its students. I encourage all to take this course. It is amazing! This is the class that exemplifies the Spirit of Ricks best. It implements the Learning Model and promotes friendships among its members. I am a better person through and through today because of the things I learned in this course. I know now what I want to promote more on this campus: The Heber J. Grant Life Skills course."
