O-T-C Medications, Prescriptions, and Herbal Supplements
Is it ok to take herbs and medications?
- Over-the-counter medications and herbal supplements are available without a prescription, but they have active ingredients that can affect your baby. For instance, aspirin, or decongestants that contain pseudoephedrine raise the risk of your baby’s organs forming outside of the belly.
- Talk to your doctor before starting any medication or herbal supplement. Your doctor will help you to decide if medication is important for your treatment, which medicines would be the safest, and what dose would be the safest for you.
- Do not take someone else’s medication, or share your medication with someone else.
