Inspire others by facilitating Gateway Foundations Seminars
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What are the Gateway Seminars?
Students enrolled in certain Foundations classes attend seminars created to enhance their BYU-Idaho experience. Students enrolled in FDSCI 101, FDAMF 101, and FDMAT 108 are expected to attend.
2. What does a peer facilitator do?
Peer facilitators team teach in the seminars and "facilitate" the learning of other students by presenting the approved seminar content and leading interactive and inspiring discussions.
3. Why should I volunteer to become a peer facilitator?
Volunteering gives you the opportunity to inspire and bless the lives of hundreds of BYU-Idaho students as you help them understand the foundational topics and principles that are unique to a BYU-Idaho education! You will also learn and grow personally as your own teaching and facilitation skills are enhanced.
4. Who can apply to be a peer facilitator?
Any student can apply who has a love for the foundational principles unique to BYU-Idaho and who has the ability to lead inspiring seminars with a group of 25 peers. We prefer students to apply no sooner than their second semester at BYU-Idaho. You can apply and/or serve during your off-track semester.
5. How much time am I expected to spend?
If chosen as a peer facilitator, you will volunteer approximately 4 hours a week facilitating seminars one evening or occasionally on a Saturday and attending ongoing training sessions held Mondays around 5-5:45 p.m. Before seminars begin, there will be a couple of Saturday mornings devoted to peer facilitator training.
6. When do I apply?
You should apply by week 10 of the semester that precedes the semester you would like to volunteer as a peer facilitator. You will be contacted shortly after week 10 for an interview. We may also be conducting interviews the first week of the semester for students who did not meet the previous semester deadline.
