Foundations
Brigham Young University–Idaho continues on its steady, upward course of educational innovation. Each new development is designed to enhance your experience and prepare you to be a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ and a leader in your family, the Church, and the workplace.
One of these important changes is being introduced right now. Starting Fall Semester 2008, BYU–Idaho will implement a new general education program called Foundations. Just as the name suggests, these courses have been created with the goal of helping students build a strong foundation for their education here at BYU–Idaho and throughout their lives.
What is Foundations?
Foundations is a complete rethinking of the university’s general education program. Instead of traditional survey courses, BYU–Idaho’s new Foundations classes provide a more focused approach, allowing students to delve deeper into specific aspects of the subject matter. The courses are interdisciplinary and are designed to fully implement the BYU–Idaho Learning Model.
Foundations courses are divided into five areas: Eternal Truths, Academic Fundamentals, Science, Cultural Awareness, and Connections. Many of the courses will be taken by all BYU–Idaho students, while other classes will be chosen according to personal preference and interest. Instructors have been working diligently during the past two years to prepare the Foundations program. Students will be greatly blessed by their faithful efforts.
