2. Apply for Scholarships
Academic and need-based awards granted to eligible students are broken into two categories: University Scholarships and Outside Aid Opportunities. Generally, students must be full time degree seeking students to be eligible for most university aid awards.
The 2013-2014 BYU-I Scholarship Application is now closed. If you are admitted to the school after April 1, 2013 and/or are a returned missionary since April 1, 2013, please send an email to scholarships@byui.edu to have the application opened up for you.

Heber J. Grant Scholarships
Awarded to students based on extra-curricular involvement and academic performance.

- Heber J. Grant Scholarship application - For the 2013-14 academic year, the application will be available December 1, 2012
- April 1st
- Credits
- Be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours to receive full award.
- 6-11.5 credits receives a prorated award
- If students are in their last semester and taking less than 6 credits, they can petition to receive a prorated award.
- Students must be enrolled in the correct amount of credits by the Financial Aid Determination Date each semester. (See Deadlines for specific date)
- To petition, send an email explaining your situation to scholarships@byui.edu
- Fill out Heber J. Grant Application
- Includes all University Scholarships except the Award of Excellence, Academic Scholarships, and Department Talent awards.
- One academic school year
- Students who receive awards that are determined through the Heber J. Grant Scholarship application are required to submit a Thank You Letter response. Certain University Aid awards will not be disbursed to the student until a valid Thank You Letter has been processed by the Financial Aid Office.
- Send all questions for the Heber J. Grant Scholarship Application to scholarships@byui.edu.
- While filling out the application, if your application is idle for 30 minutes you will have to start over.
- After you submit your application the message, "Thank you. Your application has been submitted" will be displayed once your application has been received by our office.
- Students will be notified if they receive any awards through their BYU-Idaho email account.

- Academic Scholarships are awarded for a full academic year.
- Can be received all 3 semesters as long as students take the required 14 credits each semester
- Evaluation
- Students who have not yet received an Academic Scholarship are automatically evaluated after each semester
- After having received an Academic Scholarship, reevaluation occurs after every Wintersemester for the next academic year, regardless of track
- The Academic Year begins with the Fall semester and ends after the Spring semester.
- Because the Academic Scholarship lasts for the entire Academic Year, the Winter evaluation will not affect Financial Aid for that Spring.
- Students will be automatically notified if they receive any awards through their BYU-Idaho email account.
- Academic Scholarships can not be used in combination with the Award of Excellence. If you received the Award of Excellence, it must be fully dispersed in order to become eligible for an Academic Scholarship.

For Idaho residents who have completed high school and are applying to an Idaho college or university.

- Must be filled out between November 15th and January 15th
- Be an Idaho resident
- Effective for the current academic year, be a graduating senior of an Idaho high school or its equivalent
- Enroll as a full-time (12 credits) student in an academic or professional-technical program at an eligible Idaho college or university
- Effective for the current academic year, have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above and an ACT score of 28 or above
- Enroll as a full-time student in an academic program at an eligible Idaho college or university.

Robert R. Lee Promise Scholarship Category B
For Idaho residents who have completed high school and are applying to an Idaho college or university.

Application:
- No application necessary.
- Based on information provided on the BYU-Idaho Admissions Application.
- Students will be notified via e-mail upon reception of award and will be required to submit the Robert R. Lee Promise Scholarship Acceptance form.
- Be an Idaho resident
- Be under the age of 22 prior to July 1 of the year of the award
- Enroll as a full-time (12 credits) student in an academic or professional-technical program at an eligible Idaho college or university
- Earned at least a 3.0 High School GPA or an ACT score of 20 or above.
- Effective for the current academic year, receipients must have earned a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above
- Be under the age of 22 prior to July 1 of the year of the award
- Enroll as a full-time (12 credits) student in an academic or professional-technical program at an eligible Idaho college or university
- Varies from 1-4 semesters

Bureau of Indian Affairs Benefits
Financial Aid for students of Native American heritage
Financial Aid for students of Native American heritage
Eligibility:
- To be eligible for BIA funding, in most cases a student must:
- Be at least 1/4 Indian blood
- Be registered with a tribe that has a treaty with the U.S. Gov. and an assigned census number
- Other requirements may apply.
- Students who are eligible to receive BIA awards at BYU-Idaho need to complete the following steps:
- Notify the BYU-Idaho Financial Aid Office of eligibility for Bureau of Indian Affairs funding
- Submit a FAFSA form for the current academic year (available at www.fafsa.ed.gov)
- Contact the appropriate tribal agency or office and request:
- An application
- Privacy release form
- Other required forms and documents (based on tribal requirements)
- Submit the privacy release form to the BYU-Idaho Financial Aid office
- Submit the application and other required forms to the proper tribal agency or office
- At the end of each semester students must send a copy of their grades to the tribe
- Policies regarding BIA benefit awards are not managed or controlled by BYU-Idaho. For more information regarding BIA awards students may contact the associated tribal agency.
2013-2014 Scholarship Information
In an effort to bolster student need-based aid and student employment, the following changes are being made:
- All University Scholarships (with the exceptions of talent and leadership scholarships) are evaluated through the BYU-Idaho Scholarship Application (Heber J. Grant).
- There are no longer automatic considerations for any university scholarships.
- This change is taking place in order to allow students to be considered for more financial aid opportunities. By completing this one comprehensive application, students will be evaluated for both Academic Scholarships and all other General Scholarships offered at BYU-Idaho.
- The Academic Scholarship GPA requirements are changing (see Academic Scholarships for Continuing Students below).
- The Application was open November 1, 2012 and closed April 1, 2013.
If students are admitted after April 1st, or if they return from their mission after April 1st, they will be given an opportunity to complete the application. These students must contact our office at: scholarships@byui.edu
The process is easy:- Complete the 2013-2014 BYU-Idaho Scholarship Application (Heber J. Grant) by April 1, 2013.
- Your application information along with your GPA, major, credits earned, etc. will be compared to the criteria of all available scholarships offered at BYU-Idaho. If you meet the qualifications of a particular scholarship(s) you will then be considered for that award. Your award could possibly include an Academic Scholarship, a General BYU-Idaho Scholarship, or both.
- You will be notified by the end of May 2013 of any possible awards.

General BYU-Idaho Scholarships
There are many scholarships donated to BYU-Idaho by generous donors who wish to help students obtain an education. These scholarships are based on the specific individual requirements of the scholarship. Demonstrate financial need; Self-reliance and extra-curricular involvement will also be considered.

- Meet the basic requirements of the general scholarships.
- Other factors considered may include:
- financial need
- self-reliance
- involvement in extracurricular activities
- Students are encouraged to do all they can for themselves to pay for their education. Working, saving, living frugally and sacrificing unnecessary things, etc. are ways of becoming self-reliant
- One academic school year (Fall 2013 through Spring 2014)
- Students will be awarded for those semesters which they indicate on the BYU-Idaho Scholarship Application.
- Students who receive a General BYU-Idaho scholarship may be required to submit a Thank You Letter. These letters are given to the generous donors who contribute these scholarships to BYU-Idaho. - Complete the BYU-Idaho Scholarship Application.
- Completion of at least 28 credits at BYU-Idaho.
- Upon completion of at least 28 cumulative college credits your cumulative BYU-Idaho GPA will be considered (see below).
- No more than 129 cumulative credits at the time of evaluation.
- Minimum credit requirements:
- Be enrolled in at least 14 credits during the semester of the award.
- Students in their last semester taking less than 14 credits may receive a prorated award.
- To request a prorated award during your last semester, send an email explaining your situation to scholarships@byui.edu.
- Be enrolled in at least 14 credits during the semester of the award.
- The same criteria/award levels below will be used in the evaluation.
- The transfer GPA will be used.
- If a transfer student does not qualify on the criteria below at the time of admission, they must accumulate 28 BYU-Idaho credits before they can be reconsidered.
- All academic scholarships for continuing students (sophomores, juniors and seniors) will be disbursed based on the following criteria:

- Awards will be for one academic year.
- Academic scholarships will be awarded based on the semesters students indicate on the BYU-Idaho Scholarship Application that they will be attending.
- Evaluation:
