Turning ambition into action, goals into reality, learners into leaders.
Message from the Principal
Welcome to Summit Hills Elementary School, home of the Trailblazers!
Summit Hills is proud to be a BYU-I partner school! We appreciate the talent and enthusiasm the future teachers contribute to the school environment. The school is staffed with caring and child-centered educators who make it their mission to educate every child, every day. We pride ourselves on creating a positive and engaging school climate where both teachers and students feel safe, and readily accept challenges to maximize their potential. We are dedicated to reaching the child on multiple levels to ensure that all social, emotional, physical, and intellectual needs are met. I
strongly urge you to give serious consideration to completing your senior practicum at Summit Hills Elementary. You will be teamed with a professional teacher who has experience hosting BYU-I students. Your cooperating teacher will provide expert mentoring as you develop and refine strategies for classroom management, instructional delivery and interacting with students. You will become an integral part of the grade-level and school-wide Professional Learning Community (PLC), and a participant in the school's Response to Intervention (RTI) programs.
It is worth noting that several BYU-I graduates have found a permanent home at Summit Hills and have become certified Trailblazers!
About the School
Summit Hills Elementary is the newest of 14 elementary schools in the ever-expanding Bonneville School District. It is home to just over 500 amazing students and nearly 50 dedicated staff and faculty. Opening in the fall of 2013, the physical facilities provide a comfortable and clean learning environment. Each classroom is furnished with the latest tools of technology to optimize your student-teaching experience.
Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) are in place, ensuring that all students understand expected behaviors in every area of the school. Student-discipline referrals are a rare occurrence at Summit Hills.
The school is also home to a district-wide program for students with severe limitations. The Developmental Resource Room (DRR) is staffed by two exceptional educators and several para-professionals who assist in meeting the unique needs of these special students.
During its inaugural year, Summit Hills successfully piloted the Math in Focus curriculum, which is patterned after the math program adopted by the country of Singapore. Borrowing from the success of Summit Hills, the remainder of District 93 and our neighboring Idaho Falls School District adopted the same curriculum for grades K-6. Summit Hills' teachers have developed their expertise with this revolutionary and innovative curriculum and regularly provide professional development to teachers throughout the district.
The reading curriculum consists of Journeys, the newest version of Houghton Mifflin. The science and social studies curricula are published by Pearson. Our awesome Summit Hills PTO recently purchased science experiment equipment to help support the science program.
Summit Hills is fortunate to have the support of a community of stakeholders which value education, and appreciate the efforts made by the school to meet the needs of all students.
You are welcome to stop by and visit the school at any time. We would enjoy providing you a tour, giving you more information or answering any questions.
