Fingerprinting/background checks are required to be done before beginning all practicum courses, student teaching and volunteer work with children.

Fingerprinting for students who are required to have fingerprinting/background checks done for classes or volunteer groups can be completed in the Field Services Office HIN 325. Fingerprinting times are from 8:00-4:30 P.M. excluding devotional and forum times. Please note the time for fingerprinting closes 30 minutes before the Field Services office closes. The process will take about 20 minutes to complete and will cost $50.  Students must bring a valid government issued ID such as a drivers licence or passport when having their fingerprints taken. I-cards are not an acceptable form of ID.

This backgound check (fingerprinting) is valid for three years. This means if fingerprinting is done as a Freshman or if students have been in the program more than three years they may need to renew (redo) this process in order to continue taking certain classes and being involved with certain groups. Students must get fingerprints done in Idaho for BYU-Idaho classes, organizations and student teaching in Idaho. If a student is planning on student teaching outside of the state of Idaho in one of our distant sites, this process must be completed for the state in which they will student teach. If a student prefers, they can be printed in our office for Utah or Arizona sites prior to leaving campus the semester leading to student teaching. Those student teaching in Las Vegas will need to be printed in Nevada.

Please be aware of the deadlines pertaining to fingerprinting to ensure you will be cleared prior to the start of your student teaching semester. Candidates will not be allowed to enter the classroom without this clearance.
