Each year the English Academic Society (EAS) sponsors a trip to the National Undergraduate Literature Conference hosted by Weber State University in Ogden, UT. English majors and minors that are accepted to present at the conference can qualify to receive funding for lodging, travel, and registration to cover costs.
The National Undergraduate Literature Conference is a great opportunity for students to showcase their academic and creative works in a scholarly setting. Student presenters not only gain experience in presenting, but receive excellent feedback from professors and make contacts with students from across the country. In addition, students have the opportunity to hear from and interact with some of the biggest names in writing today. Past professional speakers at the conference include Ray Bradbury, Jamaica Kincaid, Norman Mailer, Tim O'Brien, Tess Gallagher, Chitra Divakaruni, and many others.
The conference encourages research essays on British, American, and World literatures as well as creative works such as essays, fiction, and poetry. All submissions must be to Weber State by mid-January.
To get more information about dates, current speakers, and submissions, please visit the official NULC webpage.
As mentioned above, English majors and minors accepted into the conference may qualify for financial assistance in attending the conference that could include travel, lodging, and conference registration costs.
In order to apply for funding, please submit your accepted conference presentation to the English Academic Society's faculty advisor no later than the one week after notification of acceptence to the conference has been received.
