Doug Smith

Biography

Doug Smith received his associate’s degree from Ricks College in 1969 and his bachelor’s degree in Recreation Education/Dance Minor from Brigham Young University in 1971.

Smith was a member of Ricks College Ballroom Team from 1968-1969 (Mexico tour); The 1970 BYU International Folkdancers Tour team (European tour through 16 countries); The 1971 BYU Ballroom Dance Formation Team (Amateur & World Formation Champions 1971-Blackpool, England and Germany). He also directed the Ricks College/BYU-Idaho Ballroom Dance programs for 18 years and has been the Activities Program director at BYU-Idaho for 12 years.

Smith is married to to his wife, Debra. They have 11 children and 25 grandchildren. Smith retired four years ago from BYU-Idaho. Doug and Debra own and manage Skyline Trailer Court in Rexburg, with Doug working at the main desk of the Rexburg Temple on Tuesdays. He is also a Cub Master for the Rexburg 10th Ward.

Class Outline

Members of this class will learn a variety of fun line, round, and square dances that will be useful for family home evenings, church activities and family reunions. (Dance partner not required for this class.)

  • California Walk (Line Dance)
  • D.J.Cotton Eye Joe (Country Round Dance) danced in lines or with a partner
  • Uzika Karlama (Folk Round Dance)
  • The Chicken Dance (Group Dance)
  • Virginia Reel (Square Dance)
