Developing successful, contributing members of society. Always toward excellence.
Message from the Principal
Summit Academy's goal is to provide an optimal, rigorous learning experience for each student. Our talented, dedicated, and caring staff members are passionately committed to ensuring each individual student's success. Our International Baccalaureate curriculum develops inquiring, knowledgeable, and thoughtful young men and women. We focus on actively engaging students in their learning by using relevant content and high level questioning. Students benefit from thematic, inquiry-based instructional strategies that not only teach children what they need to learn, but more importantly, how to learn. In today's dynamic world it is obviously critical that the rising generation adapts to an increasingly global society and the information age we now live in.
The Summit Academy community knows that our parents are just as important as our students. We know that parents send us their children daily and that is a sacred trust, built upon mutual high expectations for success. We humbly accept the calling to educate the children of our community.
About the School
Summit Academy is an officially authorized International Baccalaureate World School serving students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. Being an International Baccalaureate school means that students who attend Summit Academy learn how to embrace learning and succeed in all endeavors. At Summit Academy, it is truly all about the students
At the elementary level, the IB curriculum is focused on helping children learn how to learn. Lessons come alive for the students because they use creativity to study issues through inquiry and questions. There is an emphasis on critical thinking, problem solving and lifelong learning. The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), "focuses on the total growth of the developing child, touching hearts as well as minds and encompassing social, physical, emotional and cultural needs in addition to academic development." All students at Summit Academy receive instruction in Spanish each week as part of the IB Programme as research suggests that skills are more readily learned at younger ages even if they do not become fluent in a foreign language. The IB Middle Years Programme curriculum includes eight different content areas that students are required to study each year they are in the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). Students achieve higher levels of learning through the principles of inquiry, hands-on learning, and international mindedness. Classroom instruction is made relevant to students as teachers utilize questions that help students make connections to various content areas. Differentiated instruction with explicit real-world applications and the development of critical thinking skills are also emphasized. Student teachers at Summit Academy will benefit from their interaction with their mentors who are highly-trained in the latest research-based strategies. Our students are extremely diverse, and most are considered at-risk, which provides for a more comprehensive pre-service teaching experience. We look forward to our association with the future teachers from BYU-Idaho.
