Silverado High School
Our mission at Silverado High School is to provide a safe, supportive and challenging environment in which students will become active, reflective and creative learners who accept responsibility for learning, have pride in their community and are prepared to contribute in a culturally diverse world.
Message from the Principal
This is an exciting time in the history of Silverado HS. Due to the extensive amount of Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs and Advanced Placement (AP) classes that are available to students, in addition to the fact that we have available seats, Silverado HS has been designated by the Clark County School District as a "Select School" beginning with the 2015-2016 school year. This distinction will allow our ten CTE programs; Academy of Finance & Management, Academy of Information Technology, Child Development, Culinary Arts, Digital Photography, Graphic Design, Microsoft IT Academy, Technical Theater, Video Productions, and Web-Site Design to grow. In addition, we will be able to expand our CTE offerings by adding Forensics Science and Sports & Entertainment Marketing.
Students attending Silverado HS will receive the same curriculum available at many magnet schools, yet still be able to take advantage of a full course offering of performing arts classes, as well as, a full athletic program. Students living in other high school zones located in the South East part of the valley who would normally attend Basic HS, Coronado HS, Foothill HS, Green Valley HS, and Liberty HS will be able to apply for admission to Silverado HS and receive transportation services to and from school. Interested students will be able to apply for admission to a Select School program at Silverado HS beginning in Mid-March by going to http://itsyourchoice.ccsd.net and following the links. Furthermore, based on Silverado's Select School status and with input from various focus groups consisting of students, teachers, parents, and community members, Silverado was able to re-brand itself in order to better reflect the wealth of CTE course offerings, and Advanced Placement classes that are offered to students. Given the quality of education that students receive, Silverado was approved by the school naming committee and school board to be formally known as Silverado College Preparatory & Career/Technical High School. At times it will be shortened to "Silverado College Prep & Career Tech". We will always be Silverado HS and students can still chant SHS at games and other events, but the new name will allow everyone to have a better idea of what Silverado offers to students. As always, parents are encouraged to attend the monthly PAC (Parent Advisory Council) meetings which are held on the first Wednesday of each month in the library from 8:00 - 9:00 AM and from 6:00 - 7:00 PM. A detailed schedule of PAC meetings is available on Silverado's website. If you should ever have a question, compliment, concern, or suggestion, please feel free to call us at 799-5790 ext 4100. Sincerely,
Robert Mars Principal
