How long does the exam take to complete?
You are allowed 2 hours for the exam. Generally most people finish within an hour and a half.
What kind of questions are contained on the exam?
There are 105 multiple choice or true false type questions on this test. They can cover any of the material found in the test competencies list at http://education.boisestate.edu/eta/. Review questions that are similar in structure and content to the actual test can be found in our online test preparation module at http://www.byui.edu/edtech/testprep.
I'm currently student teaching out of the Rexburg area and haven't taken the exam yet, do I have to come all the way back to BYU-Idaho to take the exam?
Not necessarily. There may be a testing site near your location where you can take the exam. You may also be able to make arrangements with the Office of Technology Assessment at Boise State University for other locations. They are the controlling authority for this test and are the only one's who can approve a proctor site. See there web site at http://education.boisestate.edu/eta/ for contact information.
The exam costs $45 for current BYU-Idaho students. For all others the cost is $60 payable in cash or by check on the day of the test.
I took the Education Technology class a while ago but didn't take the exam. No I don't remember everything I learned in class. Where can I find help to study?
We have set up a study help website at http://www.byui.edu/edtech/testprep . You can also go to the Boise State website at http://education.boisestate.edu/eta for additional study material.
I don't think I will be able to pass the version of the technology test given at BYU-Idaho, what are my options?
There are three different versions of the technology certification exams in the state of Idaho. To review the other two options see the webpage http://www.byui.edu/edtech/options.htm.
I'm not a current BYU-Idaho student but want to get my teaching certificate. Can I take the technology exam at BYU-Idaho?
Absolutely. We provide the same testing services to everyone who wants to get their technology certification. Just be aware that the testing fee for non-students is $60 and is payable by cash or check on the day you take the test. Credit/debit cards are not accepted but there is an ATM in the Manwaring Student Center next door that you can use.
I've signed up for the test during midterm/finals but forgotten when I signed up for, who can I contact to get that information?
You can contact Lylene Bennett at (208) 496-1200 and she can check the registration system for you.
There is a $25 dollar charge on my student account for a "no-show". What is this?
If you were required to register for the test (i.e. before 1 Jun 06 or during midterms/finals) there was a warning on the registration system that stated you would be charged a $25 no-show fee if you did not take the test. This is because of the limited seats available and the fact that you caused another student to not be able to take the test on that day. If this charge is in error contact Orren Squires at (208) 496-1226 or via e-mail at squireso@byui.edu.
I took the old version of the test offered at BYU-Idaho and failed one or more of the tasks. What do I do now?
An e-mail was sent to all of the students who were in this situation in September 2005. As of January 1, 2006 the test you took is no longer available but in some instances we are able to re-test individual tasks. To find out if you are able to do this contact Lylene Bennett at (208) 496-1200.
Where will the test take place?
You will take this test in the McKay Library room 344. If you are not familiar with the BYU-Idaho campus, a map is available at http://www.byui.edu/maps
How well must I do on the test to pass?
You must get at least 75% to pass this test and receive your technology certificate.
I didn't take the Education Technology class because it wasn't required but I need help to prepare for the test. Are there study helps available?
We are currently developing a study guide with tutorials, practice exercises, and sample questions. It is available at http://www.byui.edu/edtech/testprep and is available to everyone. Again this is currently being developed so some sections may be incomplete.
I took the technology test right before graduation and failed. Do I have to come all the way back to BYU-Idaho to retake the test?
Not necessarily, you may be able to retake the test at a local proctor site or make other arrangements with Boise State University. To find out if there are other options for you to retake the test contact the Boise State ETA office. Their contact information is found at http://education.boisestate.edu/eta.
