Reserve Library
Because the Reserve Room is considered an extension of the classroom and in order to comply with the Copyright Law and Fair Use of photocopied material, the Reserve Room will abide by the following guidelines:Photocopied material must include a notice of copyright.
Single copies of the following may be placed on reserve:
- a chapter of a book
- an article from a periodical or newspaper
- a short story, short essay or short poem
- a chart, graph, diagram, cartoon, or picture from a book, periodical, or newspaper
Multiple copies may be placed on reserve if:
- The amount of material is reasonable in relation to the number of students enrolled.
- The copies are for one course only.
- Not more than one short poem, article, story, essay or two exerpts may be copied from the same author, nor more than three from the same collective work or periodical volume during one class term.
Copied materials that require copyright permission
- Photocopies not meeting the above criteria.
- Copies of works intended to be "consumable" in the course of study or of teaching. These include workbooks, exercises, standardized test booklets, and answer sheets; etc.
- Copies kept on reserve for more than one semester.
- Copies used to create or replace or substitute for anthologies, compilations or collective works. Such replacement or substitution may occur whether copies of various works or excerpts therefrom are accumulated or reproduced and used separately.
