What is the goal of BYU-Idaho Term in Beijing Program?
The goal of Brigham Young University-Idaho Term in Beijing (BTIB) program at Capital Normal University (CNU) is to provide students who are interested in Chinese language and culture with an opportunity to improve and enhance their Mandarin skills. Through immersion in the target-language environment in a professional context, students will benefit from direct linguistic and cultural interaction with native Mandarin speakers.
Who is eligible?
Brigham Young University-Idaho on-track and off-track students are eligible. However, it is expected that participants have had at least one-year experience studying Chinese upon the time of leaving for Beijing, China in July, 2009.
What shall we do?
+ take Chinese classes from professors at Capital Normal University
+ visit local historic sites and museums
+ visit Summer 2008 Olympic sites
+ interact with local people
How much is the program fee?
$ 1400.00
Includes:
+ Registration fee
+ 4-week tuition
+ 3 to 4 BYU-I credits if you pass CNU class.
+ 30-day lodging in double-occupancy room
+ Textbooks
+ Student visa
+ Passes to the main gates of historic sites
+ Transportation to the Great Wall
Does not include:
- Airfare (around $1300 -1600)
- Passport application fee (if you do not have one)
- Souvenirs, film, camera, snacks, water, etc.
- Activities during free time
- Meals ($250 would be sufficient if you eat all meals in the CNU student cafeteria.)
What is the payment schedule?
You may pay the $1400 program fee in one lump sum or use the following payment
schedule:
+ $200.00 non-refundable deposit within 5 days after
being notified of your acceptance to secure your spot
+ $600.00 by January 30, 2009
+ $600.00 by February 16, 2009
In case of cancellation on student's part, students will lose the deposit as well as any additional costs already incurred. However, every effort will be made to hold losses to a minimum.

+ You'll be notified after a brief screening process.
