One popular event sponsored by the BYUI Chemistry Society is the annual Mole Day Fun Run. This event is held on the bi-weekly Wednesday meeting which falls closest to the 23rd day of the 10th month (October), in celebration of the value of the mole, 6.02×1023.
The course for the Mole Day Fun Run begins at the front steps of the Romney Science Building and proceeds through much of the perimeter of campus for 6 moles of zeptometers (very close to 2.25 miles). The fastest runner each year has his/her picture taken with the winning award—a constructed trophy of a mole (the mammal)—and the picture is posted in the Chemistry Society’s display case.
