7:30 p.m., BYU-Idaho Center
6 p.m., Preshow dinner in Manwaring Center Special Events Room

Brigham Young University-Idaho is inviting veterans and active-duty service men and women and their families to be special guests at this year's performance of Patriots and Pioneers featuring the university band and choirs, along with violinist Jenny Oaks Baker and her children.

The concert will be held in the BYU-Idaho Center on Friday, June 30, at 7:30 p.m. and feature both patriotic and spiritual music.

"This year's concert will tell the story of our nation and its relationship with God," said artistic director Eda Ashby. "I believe the program will reach inside our audience and stir up incredible thanksgiving and devotion to God for His blessings to our nation. As I hear these miracle stories of the faith and faithfulness of our Founding Fathers and leaders, I feel very proud to claim a relationship to them and their work."

She added, "Jenny Oaks Baker plays with such feeling, and her family as well, and the music is often profoundly moving, with many familiar tunes in fresh arrangements for band, orchestra, choir and soloists."

Jenny Oaks Baker is a Grammy-nominated recording artist. She received her master of music degree from the Juilliard School in New York City and her bachelor's degree in violin performance from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. She has released 14 studio albums since 1998. Baker's children, known as Family Four, have performed throughout the United States with their mother. They are also featured on the CD "My Home Can Be a Holy Place" and on a Mormon Channel music video, performing "Love Is Spoken Here."
