1. Who can take Summer Session credit classes?

  • High school graduates
  • Students 19 years of age
  • High school seniors with principal and Continuing Education administration approval
  • Current BYU-Idaho students
  • Applicants who have missed deadlines for day school

2. Is there an application and/or admissions process?

An application is in production process and will be required to participate in Summer Session. More information for the application process will be placed on this website as soon as it becomes available.  (Return to questions)

 

3. When can I register?

The first day when classes become available for registration.  Regardless of how many credit hours you have, all registration begins March 3, 2008.  (Return to questions)

 

4. How do I register?

5. How are these registration errors resolved?

  • Message "You are not eligible to enroll at this time."
  • This means either your credit level has not been met, or you are on-track and not allowed to take the class, or you are attempting to register for class before the first day of registration.
    • The website automatically returns to the previous page when a certain point is reached.
  • Disable the pop-up blocker on your browser by holding down the CTRL key on the keyboard.
    •   The class is full, and I want to be on a waiting list.
  • There are no waiting lists. Attend the first night of class and request to be added by the instructor if seats are available.

    6. Do Summer Session classes count for BYU-Idaho Credit?

    Yes. Students taking Summer Session classes receive BYU-Idaho credit.  (Return to questions)

     

    7. How many credits can I take during Summer Session?

    You may take as many as your schedule allows.  (Return to questions)

     

    8. What financial aid is available for Summer Session students?

    9. If I'm on academic probation or suspension, am I allowed to take Summer Session classes?

    You must first clear your academic standing with BYU-Idaho. To have the academic hold lifted for registration, please contact the Dean of Students office at (208) 496-1120.  (Return to questions)

     

    10. May Summer Session students obtain a BYU-Idaho ID card, use the Hart Building, and have BYU-Idaho student health insurance?

    • A student ID card may be obtained at the Manwaring Center in room 162. (Bring your photo ID.)
    • To use the Hart Building, visit the Hart Rules and Standards page.

    11. Can I register by phone if I don't have access to a computer?

    Telephone registration is not available. All registration must take place online. Computers are widely available on campus, at public libraries, or at the Continuing Education office.  (Return to questions)

     

    12. How do I obtain a NetID, a PIN number, and a BYU-Idaho email account?

    A NetID may be obtained at the Registrar's office verification window in the Kimball Building or call (208) 496-1084. The PIN number is your birth month and year, unless it has been changed. Contact the Continuing Education office at (208) 496-1040 if it has been forgotten. To set up a BYU-Idaho e-mail account, call the McKay Library Computer Help Desk at (208) 496-2361.     13. When is the last day to drop a credit class?

    See the BYU-Idaho Academic Schedule for drop deadlines. After deadlines have passed, you must petition by writing a letter to the Division of Continuing Education explaining the extenuating circumstances. Students WILL NOT be automatically dropped from a class if they fail to attend.  (Return to questions)

     

    14. How do I drop a Summer Session class?

    15. Is Summer Session the same as Freshman Academy?

    No. Summer Session is the academic time period of July 22 - August 29, 2008. Freshman Academy is an academic program whose campus classes are contained within the time period of Summer Session. Summer Session classes are not restricted to students in a particular program, such as Freshman Academy. (Return to questions)

     

    16. Can Freshman Academy students take additional Summer Session classes?

    Yes, though we warn new freshman not to overload their schedule their first time on campus. We would, however, suggest Freshman Academy males, soon to leave on a mission, to consider taking the Mission Preparation, REL 130, evening class. (Return to questions)

     

    17. Can Summer Session students take Freshman Academy classes?

     No. Freshman Academy is a closed program to the general public. If you are a newly admitted freshman to BYU-Idaho and would like to be considered for Freshman Academy, please first visit the Freshman Academy website, then contact Tyler Williams in BYU-Idaho Admissions Office at williamst@byui.edu.
