1. What is Quest?

Quest is a hands-on academic program designed for the adventurous student. Quest encourages active learning and participation. Students on any admission track may attend Quest programs, including off-track students. They are serious academic programs for the adventurous student.  (Return to questions)

2. How does Quest differ from a standard on-campus semester?

Programs focus on hands-on or experiential education. The small number of participants (about 30 in each program) provides greater individualized attention for each student. This environment also fosters great opportunities to grow and develop socially and academically and is a hallmark of all Quest programs. In addition, presentation of coursework is greatly augmented by the strengths of the area and location of the given program.  (Return to questions)

3. Will I receive real college credit?

Yes. All students who participate in a Quest program are automatically matriculated, or enrolled, at BYU-Idaho. All credits earned will be official BYU-Idaho credits.   (Return to questions)

4. When can I register for classes?

You will receive an information packet shortly after you enroll and pay the Quest deposit.  This information packet will give you information on how and when you can register for those specific classes for your Quest group.  (Return to questions)

5. Can I bring a car?

Yes. All participants may bring a private vehicle with them to Quest. The participant will be solely responsible for the expense and operation of the vehicle at all times. Logistical concerns will not permit the use of personal vehicles on Quest sponsored field trips or activities.  (Return to questions)

6. Should I bring a computer?

Computers are available at Quest for use in research, word processing and Internet course assignments.  Bringing a desktop PC is not feasible due to space concerns, but no objection will be made if a participant chooses to bring a lap-top computer.   (Return to questions)

7. Am I allowed to date other program members?

The Quest program is based in the theory of experiential education and meeting a variety of new friends is a crucial part of that process.  We ask that each member of the group restrain from dating, pairing off, or engaging in public displays of affection that may cause discomfort to other members of the group and limit friendships from developing.  Due to the small number of students in each cohort, dating group members or engaging in intimate behavior of any kind with another group member is not allowed.   (Return to questions)

8. What kind of clothing do I need to bring?

BYU-Idaho Dress and Honor Code still apply for campus and Badger Creek.  Students may want to bring a set of clothing, shoes and swim wear for outdoor activities and use.  (Return to questions)

9. Where do I stay while attending classes on campus?

Students are given the choice of arranging their own housing at the location of their choosing.  Be sure to inquire about block contacts (1/2 semester) when dealing with BYU-Idaho Housing or at off-campus apartment complexes.  (Return to questions)

10. Is there Financial Aid for Quest?

Students inquiring about Financial Aid should contact the BYU-Idaho Financial Aid Office(Return to questions)

11. I have health problems, should I attend Quest?

The Quest Program includes various outdoor activities and classes which are part of the program.  Participants should be able to pack 40 - 50 lbs and handle hiking various terrains and slopes.  If students feel health problems may be a concern, please check with your doctor before committing to participate in Quest.  (Return to questions)

12. When will I receive my information packet?

The information packets will be available online under the program link called "Information Packets" shortly.  A hard copy information packet will also be mailed to you.  (Return to questions)

13. What books do I need to bring for the first two weeks of Quest A?

For the first two weeks of Quest A, you will only need the book for your RM 123 class.  Other textbooks can be picked up when returning to campus.   (Return to questions)

14. Can I take other classes not listed in the Quest Information Packet?

Because of the outside class activities and full load of classes already provided to you by the designated Quest class, you should not take any extra classes. (Return to questions)

15. Do I have to take all of the Quest classes?

You will need to take a minimum of 14 credits to maintain and receive your scholarship status. Dropping below 14 credits at any time of the program will forfeit your 1/4 tuition scholarship and any other scholarships you may have for this semester. (Return to questions)
