| DESCRIPTION: | The art elements and principles are learned and applied to formal and conceptual visual design problems, emphasizing the application of color with paint. A basic background in color history and theory are surveyed. | ||

| CONTENT AND TOPICS: | Art elements and principles, working with paint, solving both formal and conceptual design problems in a 2-dimensional format, the history and theory of color, color schemes, color palettes and mixing color, conceptual and perceptual spatial conventions and strategies to work within or outside those conventions. | ||
| GOALS AND OBJECTIVES: | -- Learn art elements and principles in theory and practice. -- Have a theoretical and applied definition of design. -- Replace preconceived aesthetic assumptions with effective and sensitive design awareness. -- Experience paint as the principle tool to explore art elements and principles. -- Gain an understanding of visual literacy, making corrections with theory and practice and having abundant exposure to diverse images. -- Acquire basic design vocabulary. -- Pursue diverse aesthetic interests, including painting, illustration, graphic design, photography, and architecture. |
