Introduction
Influencing people's lives for the better is one of the satisfactions of teaching. Education, above all other professions, allows you to share yourself with others as you help them grow, learn, mature, and identify that which will have a lasting impact for good throughout their lives.
The Elementary Education Department offers a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Elementary Education. Students will be exposed to a strong theoretical knowledge base with extensive practical experience in the public schools. Students successfully completing the program will be eligible to apply for a K-8 Idaho Education Teaching Credential.

Department Requirements
Students must maintain a 2.8 cumulative GPA
Students must earn a C- or better in all courses filling GE and ElEd requirements
Students must take the following exams before student teaching:
1. Idaho Comprehensive Literacy Exams
2. Idaho Technology Competency Exam
3. Praxis II Exam
4. Praxis Pedagogy Exam
Students must complete a Professional Portfolio which will include entries from all course areas included in GE and major requirements.

| ELED 260 Classroom Applications of Technology |

| Prerequisite: Must have completed ED 200 |
| This course extends basic technology skills and applies them to the classroom. Topics to be covered will include HyperStudio, data bases, web pages, and grading programs. |

| ELED 280 Motivation and Management |

| Prerequisite: ElEd 220 |
| Prospective teachers will explore management and motivation skills and strategies, examining multiple philosophies as a basis for reflecting on educational practice. |

| ELED 319 Diverse Settings Practicum |

| This course will be completed during the off-campus semester in an on-line format. It will be service-oriented to develop cultural, social, and economic awareness.

| This course provides pre-service preparation for K-12 classroom teachers in the visual arts content area with emphasis on the development of classroom materials and instructional strategies. |

| This course will establish a classroom environment for musical development. Emphasis will be on appropriate songs, activities, resources, and teaching strategies so music can be used to teach curriculum content. |

| Prepares future teachers in the areas of language acquisition, structure, and development; basic skills of literacy fluency; and strategies for improving reading in all content areas. |

| This course is designed as a final course in the Elementary Education literacy sequence. It reviews and deepens the teacher candidate's understanding of language instructional strategies and assessment processes. At the conclusion of this course, students are expected to pass the third section of the Idaho State Literacy Exam. |

| Assists the prospective Elementary Educator in developing skills in the use of assessment, the construction of assessment devises, the statistical analysis of test results, and the appraisal of educational research. |

| ELED 490 Student Teaching: Elementary Education |

| Student Teaching is the culminating experience, the capstone of the academic and professional training of a pre-service teacher. A sixteen week practicum is completed in the public school classroom in a primary (grades K-3) and an intermediate (grades 4-7) placement. Pre-service teachers demonstrate their skill as they apply all they have learned about the principles and art of teaching. |
