Welcome to
Brigham Young University-Idaho! You
have chosen an excellent place to pursue your education. This continues to be a season of transition at this
institution. In June of 2000, Gordon B.
Hinckley, President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and
Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Church Educational System, announced
that Ricks College, the largest privately owned two-year school in the United
States, would become a baccalaureate institution known as Brigham Young
University-Idaho. The programs and
courses outlined in this catalog reflect the implementation of the programs
being offered at the “new” institution.
I am pleased that you will be part of this exciting and historic period
of change. Ricks College had long been recognized as a school where
students received personal, individualized attention; where ecclesiastical
leaders created spiritual havens for ward members; where students genuinely
cared about other students. Many things
have already changed at this institution; and, undoubtedly, many more changes
will take place in the future. However,
the unique environment found on this campus, which is often referred to as the Spirit
of Ricks, need not change--and you can play a significant role in
preserving and enhancing it! I
encourage you to take your studies seriously, to be active in your campus ward,
and to participate in a breadth of extracurricular activities. By so doing, you will come to understand and
help strengthen the Spirit of Ricks at BYU-Idaho. This catalog provides a wealth of useful information about
the academic programs at BYU-Idaho, the requirements you must meet, and the
many services that are offered to support your endeavors. I urge you to study this information carefully
and refer to it often. If you have
questions, please do not hesitate to contact your academic advisor, another
faculty member, and/or any of the support staff who work in the various offices
on campus. All of us are here to be of
service to you. Again, welcome! Best
wishes for success and happiness in all you do. Sincerely,
David A. Bednar President |
