About The Program

Through the ERS International Internship Program, students will introduce & strengthen career self-reliance planning with local church members, and teach the Career Workshop in Employment Resource Centers, institutes of religion, and volunteer employment centers. Interns train local volunteers to teach the Career Workshop to others; assist young adults in making and pursuing career plans and achieve personal goals; assist ERS managers in developing educational, training, and employment resources, and in evaluating the effectiveness of career development efforts. Students travel and teach in pairs, working with local leaders to arrange classes, schedules, training locations, etc.

Note: Students will work approximately 20 hours per week, with assignments, projects, online coursework or other activities scheduled during an additional 20 hours per week.

    FAQs

How fluently do I have to speak the language?

Very. You will be teaching the local members a workshop, and must be able to communicate effectively about résumés, job interviews, building contact lists, etc. If you are not sure about the level of your fluency, we can have someone evaluate your language skills.

    Do I go by myself?

No, we send all interns in pairs, somewhat like a mission. If you have someone that you want to go with, both will need to submit separate applications - be sure to make a note on your application of who you would like to go with. If you don't have someone to go with, don't worry - we'll find someone to send you with. Oh yes, and both students must be of the same gender. But you probably figured that out, right?

I'm married, may I take my spouse? May I take children?

    Maybe.

    • If both spouses are in the applicable majors and speak the language fluently, you could teach the workshop as a team.
    • If only one of the spouses speak the language, then the spouse can go, however, we would then be required to find another married couple to go with you, as the workshops must be taught in pairs.
    • Taking children - good question. We've allowed it before under certain circumstances.

It's a pretty complicated set of questions - you should probably come to the orientation or our offices and we can talk about it.

I'm not in one of the majors listed, may I still go as a "humanitarian" experience?

No, unfortunately the experience has to be an internship related to your major.
