Elder John Porter was born and raised in Rexburg, ID. He worked in the printing industry for many years as a young boy doing everything from melting lead to running the presses. He later moved to Seattle and worked in management at a printer and sales at a graphic arts supply company. He spent the next 20 years or so working for several different manufacturers reaching a national sales manager position. He has lived with Sister Porter in Kirkland, WA for 32 years and currently operates his own company selling used printing equipment.

Sister Loretta Porter was born in Aberdeen, ID and spent most of her younger years there. Like John, her main work experience was in the printing industry. She ran the Ludlow typesetting machine at the Rexburg Standard Journal and also worked with advertisements and as a bindery worker. However, her primary occupation has been raising children and now grandchildren.
