Benefits To Experience Providers

As an employer, what are the benefits of taking on a BYU-Idaho Intern? Student

  1. 2,000 - 3,000 BYU-Idaho Interns Go Out Each Year

Nearly every student at BYU-Idaho will be required to complete an internship. Some students may be required to have two. We are sending out interns in greater numbers each semester.

  2. Three-Track System Benefit: Year-Round Help

The three-track system allows students one open semester each year. This provides the perfect opportunity to take on a full-time internship during various times of the year. This is especially convenient for businesses that might otherwise have difficulty finding interns during the fall and winter semesters, when most other students would be in school.

  3. Local/National/International Possibilities

BYU-Idaho students have already served in 47 states and 22 foreign countries. Students are encouraged to expand their horizons and find new and challenging internships.

  4. Low-cost employee without cost of benefits

Interns are typically short-term hires without lengthy contracts or paid benefits. If you don't have the budget for another full-time employee, taking on interns can provide a valuable service without the worries of dramatically increasing the bottom-line.

  5. “Test-drive” future employees

Many employers select future hires from the pool of interns they've recently hired. It allows an employer to see how an individual fits into the organization, to get a feel for the intern's work abilities, etc.

Imagine if a football team could have college players intern with them for a year before deciding to offer a long-term contract. Not only would it increase a team's chances of hiring the right players, those receiving contracts would hit the ground running because they'd be familiar with the plays and their teammates.1

If an intern fits in well with your other workers, proves to be a self-starter and exhibits a talent for the work, you'll certainly want to consider him or her in the future when hiring.

  6. Students are enthusiastic & ready to learn

Interns are looking for an opportunity to apply their knowledge in a real-world environment. They are interested in gaining an understanding of what it is like to work in a professional setting. They understand they have limitations in terms of experience and the practical application of their knowledge, but they are earnest, dedicated, and have a surprisingly high level of skill and knowledge that they are eager to demonstrate.
