General Information

The purpose of the center is to assist students and alumni in marketing themselves to potential employers. The staff at the center help train students and alumni in job search techniques, résumé writing, cover letter writing, and interviewing. We also provide job listings and assist students in obtaining full-time career jobs or academic internships. The center is equipped with MS Word, WordPerfect 9 and laser printers to assist students and alumni in producing top quality documents.

Résumé Reviews
Just call or stop by our office to schedule an appointment for a résumé review. Remeber to bring at least the beginnings (record of your experience, accomplishments, etc) of a résumé so that we can help with the following:
- Receive one-on-one résumé feedback personalized to your specific needs and career goals
- Initial appointments are with student "career placement mentors" who have been trained in effective résumé-writing techniques
- Haven't a clue how to even get started? We can help!
- Learn what to say - and more importantly - what not to say on a résumé.

Practice Interviews
Never had an interview before, and you're worried about your upcoming interview? Have trouble knowing how to answer all those "weird" questions employers seem to throw out to you? Schedule an appointment to have an interview!
The following is a practice interview preparation checklist that will be helpful to make the practice interview most beneficial to you. You can also view and print off the Practice Interview Prep Checklist and the Know Your Audience Guide.
- Did the student come prepared with the name of a company and a job title?
- Had they researched the company before the interview and demonstrated a thorough knowlege and understanding of that company?
- Was the student dressed professionally for the interview?
- Was the student on time?
- When given the chance to comment on their interview performance did the student talk about their strengths as well as things they would like to change?
- Did the student maintain eye contact?
- Did the student prepare 2-3 questions to ask the interviewer?
- Did the student make a good first impression to the interviewer at the beginning of the interview?
- Did they offer their name?
- Did they use the interviewer's name?
- Was the student prepared with past experience, skills/abilities, and goals to answer the question: "Tell me about yourself in 30-60 seconds?"
- Did the student share a weakness that was relevant and specific to them?
- Did they share specific ways they are improving that weakness?
- Did the student answer the behavioral questions with specific examples/situations from their past work experience?
- Did the student appear calm and confident?
- Was the student fidgety?
- Was the student easy to understand?
- Did they speak slowly and clearly?
This information allows us to provide industry-specific questions and suggestions to help you anticipate what you might expect in an interview with your target organization.
Appointment Information:
Résumé reviews and practice interviews are scheduled by appointment (walk-in appointments available on a VERY limited basis - ensure an appointment by signing up in advance).
Each appointment is 30 minutes long. If you would like to schedule BOTH a résumé review and a practice interview, you MUST sign up for two appointments (preferably consecutive).
If you require a video-taped interview for a specific class, please schedule the appointment, then call us at (208) 496-2176 to let us know so we can have the equipment ready.
If your appointment is to fulfill a course requirement - please be sure to get a confirmation form from your peer mentor before leaving, you'll need to take this back to your teacher.
