1. What is Career Navigator?
    • Career Navigator is BYU-Idaho's online job search database. At its most basic, Career Navigator provides a forum for students to connect with potential employers. The following types of employment are available to search:
      • Career/Degreed positions
      • Internships
      • Full-time positions
      • Part-time positions
Employers can also post on-campus interview schedules, information sessions, and search resume books populated with resumes uploaded by students.

  2. How do I access Career Navigator?
    • There are two ways to access Career Navigator:
      • From the BYU-Idaho home page, click ‘Students’ then scroll to ‘Employment.’  On the pop-out menu, click ‘Career Navigator’ and you will be directed to the Career Navigator login page.
      • Go to www.byui.edu/CareerServices and click on the Career Navigator icon.  You will be asked if you are a student or an employer.  Click ‘for students’ and you will be directed to the Career Navigator login page.
    • Once you are at the login page, enter your NetID and password as you would if you were logging in to my.byui.edu.  The first time you login, you will be asked to complete a brief profile.  All fields marked with an ‘*’ are required.  Upon completing the profile, you will have full access to all of the functionalities of the system.

  3. I'm on the Career Navigator login page, but it won't accept my NetID and password. What do I do?
    • Most of the time, this is the result of operator error. A few things may be happening:
      • The most common mistake is being on the wrong page. There are several login pages for Career Navigator, depending on your status. Students should be logging in at https://byui-csm.symplicity.com/students. If you're not on this page, you likely won't get in.
      • Make sure the caps lock isn't on.
      • Make sure you're entering your password correctly.
      • If none of the other suggestions work, please contact the Internship & Career Services office at 208.496.2176.

  4. How do I apply for jobs?
    • In order to apply for most jobs in the system, you will need to have a resume posted in the system:
      • Click the 'documents' link in the toolbar at the top of the page
      • Click 'Add New'
      • Give your document a system label, browse to your document, and click submit
      • Your document will be converted to a .pdf file (Important: Open the converted document to ensure that it appears the way you want it to before submitting the document for a position)
    • Once your document has been uploaded, browse to the position for which you wish to apply, select your resume from the Resume dropdown box in the Application Status field, type any notes you would like the employer to see when reviewing your application, and click 'Submit.' Your application has been submitted. (Please note: After you have uploaded your initial resume, you can add a tailored resume to your application for any position from the Application Status field by simply clicking 'Add New')

  5. How do I sign up for an on-campus interview?
    • The process of signing up for an interview is much the same as outlined above for applying for a non-OCR position. The difference is in the Schedule Type.
    • There are three basic types of schedules:
      1. Open - any student who meets the minimum criteria as designated by the recruiter may submit a resume and sign up for an interview slot on a first-come, first-served basis
      2. Preselect - students must first submit their resume; after a specific time frame, the recruiter will review the applications and select candidates to interview (in some cases, the recruiter may select alternates, who will be allowed to sign up after the selected candidates have had a chance to sign up). Selected candidates and alternate candidates will be notified via email that they have been selected to interview. Declined candidates will not be notified that they were not selected.
      3. Resume Collect - similar to preselect, only the recruiter notifies selected students and arranges for interview times with them independent of Career Navigator
