Paul & Cheryl Smith

On Campus

Paul and Cheryl were born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple in March 1969. They celebrated their 48th anniversary this year.

They have 5 children, 3 boys and 2 girls. Theyʼve been blessed with 18 beautiful grandchildren, 9 boys and 9 girls.

Paul served his mission in Sweden and was in the Air Force Reserve for 6 years. He received his bachelorʼs degree in finance and his MBA from the University of Utah.

Paul began his career in Salt Lake City with Merrill Lynch but in 1974 the family moved to Seattle where Paul and Cheryl started a car rental business. In 1980 the business had grown to include a motel and airport parking facility. The business was sold that year and the family moved back to Salt Lake City where Paul resumed his career with Merrill Lynch and retired in 2013 from that firm.

Paul and Cheryl have served in various church callings. All have been great experiences. Among their favorites include serving for 4 years in a young single adult ward at BYU. While Paul was serving on the High Council and then in a bishopric there, Cheryl was relief society president in their home ward. While Cheryl participated and enjoyed the BYU experience when she could, she made sure she attended all parties. She was affectionately know as the “party girl”.But perhaps their favorite calling was their last calling, the stake baptismal coordinators. (best calling ever)

Paul enjoys golfing, fishing, hunting and riding with Cheryl in the side by side. Cheryl enjoys all kinds of hand work - knitting, sewing, crocheting, cross stitch, quilting, and smocking - and riding with Paul in the side by side.

They are so excited to start this new mission adventure - serving together at BYU Idaho.
