John was born and raised in Idaho Falls, Idaho where he loved to play all types of sports, especially basketball and baseball. Upon graduation from Idaho Falls High School he attended one year at Ricks and played on the Ricks baseball team. He served his mission in the North East British mission and then returned to school at Utah State University. He earned a BS in a pre-med program and then went on to Loma Linda University in Southern California to obtain a Master’s in Public Health (MPH).
Upon completion he began working for the Santa Clara County Health Dept. Deciding to change direction after 10 years, he moved to the financial industry and became the senior vice president of Community West Mortgage. Today he is still active in lending and real estate as the owner of Realty World California Homes and a branch of Community West Mortgage.
While at Utah State University he met Kathy Carlisle, a California girl, and they were married in the Los Angeles temple in 1967. They have 8 children and 15 grandchildren and are busy helping their children and their families. With ties to Idaho, John still runs a family farm that belonged to his mother.
Church callings include Young Men’s callings, Bishop and Branch president, High Council and Gospel Doctrine instructor. Kathy and John both serve in the Oakland Temple.
Kathy was born and raised in Southern California where she was the second of 6 children. She attended Utah State University and graduated with a BS degree in Home Economics. She practiced her degree raising 8 children and now enjoys her grandchildren. Kathy has enjoyed serving in the Relief Society as President, Home Making leader, teacher and Compassionate Service Leader. She has also served in Young Women’s as President and Second Counselor, Primary President and teacher, and on the Activities committee. In her spare time she enjoys sewing, cooking and oil painting.
