Portland is sometimes called the "City of Roses". It is the greenest city in America (Popular Science) and in the Top 10 (#2) greenest cities in the world (Grist Magazine). It's also the most vegetarian friendly city in America, and the home of the Rose Garden, the Portalnd Trailblazers (NBA) and the Portland Timbers (MLS).
A high density of technology companies has earned the name of Silicon Forrest. World or North American headquarters for Vestas Wind Systems, Li-Ning Co. (Sporting goods), Hi-Tech Sports, KEEN, Inc., Columbia Sportswear, FLIR, TriQuint Semiconductors, and Adidas.
Fortune 500 companies are Niki and Precision Castparts Other manufacturing companies are Freightliner Trucks, Zidell Companies, The Collins Companies, Western Star Trucks. Portland has a steel manufacturing history and is the areas number one employer in companies like Schnitzer Steel, Industries and Oregon Steel Mills. Port of Portland is the 3rd largest port in the US, the largest port for wheat in the US, and the 2nd largest in the world.
