Phil and Janet are both adult converts to the Church. Phil grew up a “navy brat”, living with his family in numerous locations around the globe. Janet grew up in California and Arizona. They have four adult children and 10 grandchildren so far (with one more on the way in August 2013). Their major interests include travel and spending time with family.
Phil earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from San Diego State University and an MBA from Roosevelt University in Chicago. He spent seven years on active duty with the US Navy, and twenty more years in the navy reserves. He was employed by the State of Colorado for more than two decades in the field of risk management, and later worked for a major airline in flight ops quality assurance. His service in the Church includes counselor to three bishops, ward missionary and ward mission leader, stake and ward employment specialist, scout master, public affairs, and currently high priest group leader.
Janet’s primary work has been that of homemaker and mother. She also worked for a number of years as a grant evaluator for the local school district and was self-employed as a home health aide. Her service in the church includes relief society president, counselor and secretary; stake public affairs director; building librarian; and ward missionary.
Together the Savages served two years (2009-2011) in Okinawa, Japan as military relations missionaries.
