McKINLEY CHALLENGE

We just concluded the McKinley Challenge program under the direction of the Wellness Committee. From all reports it was a rewarding and beneficial experience for those who participated. Here are a few items of interest: We had a total of twenty-nine teams involved during all twelve weeks. The combined total minutes was 702,162 which equates to 11,702.7 hours of exercise. This amounts to about 16 1/4 months if we go with 30 day month, 24 hours per day. Quite an accomplishment!

During the awards meeting, we recognized the Hart Stompers team lead by Judie Hood with a total of 57,610 minutes. The person with the most minutes was Shelley Liljenquist with 16,560. Each member of the Hart Stompers team received a Bookstore gift certificate and Shelley was awarded a "Crazy Chair". Team captains were on hand to pick up a gift for each of their team members (a Motivations calendar for the year 2000). Thanks to everyone for the great effort.

Starting January 10, we will have another challenge program. We will set our sights on Mount Chimborazo in Ecuador (20,702 feet) which at one time was thought to be the world's tallest mountain. An added bonus this time will be the earning of extra minutes by eating fruits and vegetables on a daily basis. Teams are being formed so if you are not currently on a team please contact Larry Wickham (ext. 1040 or e-mail wickhaml@ricks.edu) for a packet of information. You can recruit others to be part of your team or we could help place you on another team. Either way, we would welcome you to a semester of fun, and at the same time, improve your health.
