"Semester Conclusion"

Submitted by Larry Wickham

With the conclusion of this semester, the Wellness Committee is completing the third phase of our Incentive Program. By way of review, the areas we have concentrated on for the last three semesters include (1) Physical Exercise and Fitness, (2) Diet and Nutrition, and (3) Lifestyle. During each phase we have tried to coordinate the topic with an Incentive Program and educational material each week. In conjunction, we have had several "brown bag luncheons" to explore various related subjects. It has been gratifying to see the number of people exercising, becoming more aware of the food they are eating and working toward a better lifestyle. We have received many letters, phone calls and comments expressing how things are progressing. Keep up the good work!

During the summer months we will not be providing a daily tracking log to record your progress but hope you will develop one of your own. Instead, we are going to use some of our resources to develop some new programs. One project currently underway is a "home page" which will contain the mission statement, information concerning diet/nutrition, exercise, recipes, questions/answers, and so forth. Our goal is to be up and going by the end of the summer. Another project will be a "Challenge" program made up of various teams across campus. This will start with the fall semester and will not necessarily be to see who is "number one" but rather to see who can complete the goals. We want it to be "user friendly." We encourage you to mark your calendar for the Third Annual Health Fair scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 5. Plans are well underway to make it more informative than the ones in the past. We are quite pleased with the TOP HEALTH monthly newsletter and plan to continue to subscribe. We want you to know that as a committee, we are committed to providing you with the educational material and programs that will help you enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
