Black Forest Germany
The Black Forest is a wooded mountain range in southwestern Germany. The name comes from the Romans who referred to the thickly forested mountains there as Silva Nigra because the dense growth of conifers in the forest blocked out most of the light inside the forest. The Black Forest is crossed by numerous hiking, biking, and cross-country skiing trails. The total network of trails amounts to around 14,000 miles. Black Forest clockmakers are renowned for their precision clocks, with the most popular being Cuckoo Clocks.
