On-Campus Branding Guidelines

Certain brand elements ensure that the University's brand is recognizable and familiar. These elements are consistent across all communication with the exception of specifed media channels and exclusively on-campus communications. The general standards found here are used for all other channels to represent BYU-Idaho.

Logo Box

The phrase "logo box" refers to the official logo in white centered over a black box.

Color

The logo box should be solid black. No textures, shadows, or gradients are allowed.

Logo Placement

The logo box should be a black square with the official logo in the center. Always include "clear space" - an area free of other elements - on all sides of the logo. This can be determined by the height of the letter "B" found on the top left corner of the logo.

Outline

To set it apart from a dark background, a thin gray stroke must be given to the logo box. Thickness: .25 point CMYK: (0,0,0,50) RGB: (150,150,150) Hex: (959595) If the advertisement is too large for this thickness to be adequate, bring the stroke size up to .5 point.

Size

To determine the size of a logo box, measure 1/7th of the shortest side of the design. See below for exceptions and additional information:

Too Thin or Long:

When communication materials (e.g., web ads, banners), are too narrow or long for the suggested 1/7 ratio, the logo box may fill the height or width of the design, and blue then becomes the background color.

Very Large or Small:

When communication materials are very large or small, use judgment to size the logo box for good visibility.

Minimum Size

Avoid scaling the logo box to smaller than 50px or 3/4 inches.

Logo Box Placement

The logo box should be placed one box width from a corner, centered along the blue bar, or directly in a corner.

Bleed

Any printed artwork should include a bleed of at least .125". Bleed is the zone outside the area to be trimmed off. Having artwork extend into the bleed ensures the artwork prints to the edge of the paper. The logo box should be extended into the bleed to create a rectangle so that when cut to size, the logo box remains a square.

Blue Bar

Color

Only use the official BYUI Blue. No textures, shadows or gradients are allowed. (Refer to the Color Guide as needed.)

Content

Content should not be placed in the blue bar unless there are unavoidable size constraints. (See "Height" section.)

Height

When possible, design the blue bar to be 1/2 the height or width of the logo box. Exceptions exist for when the design size is too small. See below for details.

Blue Bar Size

Make the blue bar the height of the logo box and add content. Place the logo box in the left or right corner.

Fill Background with Blue

When BYUI Blue is used for the background, follow the logo box guidelines mentioned in the "Logo Box Placement" section.

Placement

When grouped with the logo box, the blue bar must be used on one of the four sides of the advertisement.

Please note that specified media channels and on-campus communications often follow an exception to this standard.
