2016 -- SAE Events

Zero-Emissions SuperCup (pinewood derby)

  • DATE:
  • For SAE members and their families - spouses and children are welcome to participate
  • Weigh-in at 5:30, race starts at 6:00
  • Austin 160 (Automotive Lab)
  • Official Pinewood derby regulations apply
  • You can purchase car kits from the Austin 106.  Price - $2.00 per car for paid SAE members, $4.00 per car for non-SAE members*
  • The SAE has some hand-tools for building your car in case you do not have your own

Skills Contest (SkillsUSA Regional Competition)

  • DATE: March 2017

  • Students from area high schools will come to BYU-Idaho to compete in a hands-on automotive skills contest

  • BYU-I students who are registered members of SkillsUSA can compete here for the chance to represent BYU-I in the state SkillsUSA competition**

  • All automotive students and SAE members are invited to particpate as judges or with other responsibilities

Open Lab Nights           
  • DATE: November 30, 2016 from 5:30-8:30pm

  • Paid SAE members only*

  • You must sign up beforehand; a sign-up sheet will be available in Austin 106 before each open lab night

  • Only students who are taking or who have completed Auto 131 or higher Automotive classes

  • Labs will be open for students to perform minor repairs or maintenance on their own vehicles

  • No friends or family members, please (because of safety)

Closing Social                    

  • DATE: December 6th, 2016
  • Students and their spouses and children are invited
  • You do not have to be a paid member to participate, however you must RSVP so that we can plan food for you

*To join SAE, go to SAE.org and complete your registration.  Dues for student members are $25 per year, and are paid online at the time of registration.  Besides these activities, there are many other benefits of being a member of SAE

**To join SkillsUSA, you must go to Austin 106 before January 31st and pay your $20 SkillsUSA dues.  This allows you to compete in the SkillsUSA regional competition, which could qualify you for the state competition, which could qualify you for the national competition.
