  1. 21.8 Million Vets Live in the U.S.
  2. There Are 1.6 Million Female Vets.
  3. 71% of veterans cast a ballot in the 2008 presidential election. Compare that to the general public of which 61% voted that same year.
  4. 7.6 million Vietnam-era vets are living in the U.S. right now. Another 4.8 million served during the Gulf War, 2.6 million in Korea, and 2.1 million during World War II. There are no living American veterans of World War I.
  5. California has more U.S. military veterans than any other state.
  6. Veterans are people who served in the military (US Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard) in times of war or peace.
  7. There are currently over 2 million female veterans in the United States.
  8. Veterans Day originated as "Armistice Day" on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I.
