Dean L. Thomson (56) of Citrus Heights, Calif., will be
the encampment director of the 21-stake Golden Empire Council of
Northern California Boy Scouts of America jamboree in 2002. He has
received scouting’s highest honor, the Silver Beaver and was
assistant encampment director of a jamboree in 1998.
60s
Roger Andrews (67) of Provo, Utah, is the current
president of The Risk and Insurance Management Society, Inc. (rims),
a not-for-profit group of about 7,500 individuals in 88 chapters.
Roger is General Counsel and Director of Risk Management for E.D.
Bullard Company of Kentucky. He was "Man of the Year" at
Ricks in 1967.
Larry Wickham (68) of Rexburg is the current president of
Mountain Plains Adult Education Association, a 500-member group
functioning in eight states. Larry is assistant director of
continuing education at Ricks. He oversees Elderhostel and travel
study programs.
70s
Doyle V. Peterson (70) of Gaithersburg, Md., was named
country manager for Romania for Trans Ag Production Company and
RomAg 98, an integrated agricultural production project that is
being expanded to Bulgaria, Georgia and the Ukraine. Doyle is
married to the former Delene Hansen (70).
Cheris (Cheri) Miner Lane (72) of Mulino, Ore., is a water
quality technician for the City of Salem, Oregon. She recently
opened her own water testing laboratory and consulting firm. She is
the first person in Oregon approved for using vitamin C as a
dechlorination method.
Blaine McInelly (74) of Driggs, Idaho, is the current
president of the Idaho Association of Secondary School Principals (iassp)
and represented Idaho at the national assp convention. He is the
principal at Teton High School in Driggs. He is married to the
former Michelle Williams (73).
Gary Price (74) of Springville, Utah, a sculptor, was in
Iceland in June for the dedication of a monument to Icelandic
natives who joined the LDS Church and emigrated to the United States
between 1854 and 1914. Price sculpted an eight-foot bronze angel
entitled "Messenger." Earlier that month he was in
Brentwood, Tenn., for the installation of a bronze sculpture at the
United Methodist Church.
Donovan Bramwell (76) of Lewisville, Idaho, is a technical
writer/editor for the U.S. Department of Engergy’s Idaho National
Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (ineel) in Idaho Falls,
Idaho. He received an Award of Merit in Technical Publications.
80s
Alicia Velazquez Garcia (80) of Houston, Texas, graduated
from South Texas College of Law in Houston with a Juris Doctor
degree. She and her husband, Juan Jose, are the parents of three
children.
Rebecca Prengel Thompson (81) of East Wenatchee, Wash., is
a founder, vice president of operations and secretary of
Responsibility In The Arts (rita). The foundation "supports,
enlists support, and assists in creating, developing and promoting
worthwhile and uplifitng new artistic works."
Lynn Moncur (81) of Salt Lake City, Utah, is the new head
basketball coach at Brighton High School. He also teaches history at
the school. He and his wife, Jan, are the parents of five children.
Hal Gordon (83) of Aloha, Ore., has completed 10 years as
Oregon State Agricultural Economist for the USDA-Natural Resources
Conservation Service. He is continuing research on trout and aquatic
invertebrates.
Julianne Dehlin Hatton (84) of Henderson, Ky., is the new
field representative for Kentucky’s 1st District Congressman
Edward Whitfield. She will oversee six counties. She also is
completing work on her Master’s degree in Social Science at
Syracuse University.
Evan Wirig (87) of El Cajon, Calif., is chairman of the
Department of Media Communications at Grossmont College. He is
married to the former Kimberlee Anderson (86), an adjunct professor
of speech communications at Grossmont. They have four children.
90s
Shaun Eames (91) of Menan, Idaho, is a graphic artist at
the U.S. Department of Engergy’s Idaho National Engineering and
Environmental Laboratory (ineel) in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was
honored by the regional chapter of the Society for Technical
Communications earlier this year with two awards for design and
illustration.
Derek Hein (92) of Goodwell, Okla., is assistant professor
of mathematics at Panhandle State University after completing his
Ph.D. in mathematics from Central Michigan University. He is married
to the former Paula Harris (92) and they are the parents of three
children.
Aaron D. Sanns (92) of Rexburg is an admissions and
scholarship counselor at Ricks College. He received his Master’s
degree in Higher Education Administration from Idaho State
University. He is married to the former Ruth Ann Staiger (92).
Angelyn Mason Smith (93) of Mobile, Ala., graduated with a
Master’s degree in Health Education from Idaho State University.
Her husband, Brett Smith (93) is now attending Physician Assistant
School in Mobile. They have a young son, Jared.
Michael W. Phelps (97) of Bountiful, Utah, has graduated
from Utah State University with a degree in Spanish and teaches
Seminary at Viewmont High School in Utah. He is married to the
former Anna Sorensen (97) and the couple have a young son, Adam.
IN MEMORIAM
Lucile Manwaring Cullimore (30), age 89, a daughter of the
late Hyrum Manwaring, president of Ricks College from 1931 to 1944,
died March 4, 2000, at a Nampa, Idaho, care center. She attended
Ricks and was secretary, while still attending school, to the late
George Romney, president of Ricks College from 1917 to 1931.

Dr. C. Dean Packer (36), age 84, died April 13, 2000, in
Provo, Utah. A son of the late Clyde P. Packer, a Ricks College
coach from 1917 to 1939, Dean graduated from Ricks and had a long
and distinguished career in medicine. He was practicing emergency
room medicine until eight months prior to his death. He was featured
in the first issue of Summit magazine in 1988. Dean, and his wife
Dottie McKinlay Packer (37), were honored with the college’s
Distinguished Alumni Award in 1993.
