EXEMPLARY FACULTY
Steve Terry, a mathematics instructor since 1976, was honored in
April with the Exemplary Faculty Award. The award is given annually
by the Ricks College Faculty Association to a teacher who exhibits a
positive influence in the lives of both students and colleagues,
exemplifies the highest standards, is liked by students and fellow
workers, and who stays ahead of developments in his or her teaching
area.
Honorary award recipients were John Galbraith and Mel Sanford in
foreign languages, retiree Dorla Jenkins (65) in English, Phil
Packer (70) in business, and retiree Lynn Smith in
sociology-criminal justice. Librarian David Butler received the
association’s Non-Classroom award; and English instructor Susan
Grover the Adjunct-Part-Faculty award. The Innovation in Teaching
awards went to Jeff Anderson in humanities, John Thomas in religion
and Lane Williams in communications.
NEW RESOURCE FILE AVAILABLE
Information for a new family history resource file, the Mormon
Immigration Index, Passenger Lists and Passenger Accounts, was
compiled by two Ricks College instructors. Blaine Bake, an archivist
and family history instructor who has been at Ricks since 1971, and
Fred Woods, a former religion teacher who left Ricks in 1998 and now
teaches at BYU, began work on the project about 1995 with the help
of various students. The file contains names, birth years and dates
of voyages of some 90,000 LDS passengers who came to America in
ships between 1840 and 1890. The file is available through the
Church Distribution Center.
