If you have answered yes or no to any of these questions then you need to...GET INVOLVED WITH SOCIAL!

Every Monday (except holidays) @ 5pm in the MC Little Theater is the Get Involved Meeting.

WINTER 2015: We are currently looking for Managers for the following events:

  • Party in the Hart Saturday Jan 10th, Feb 7th, Mar 14th
  • Etiquette Dinner Thursday: March 19th 
  • Valentine Ball (No theme chosen yet) Feb 14th
  • Mystery Dinner (No Date Chosen)
  • Classic Movie Night: Feb 13, Mar 13 (and one additional date)
  • Weekly Dance Mangers (2 co-managers needed for Ballroom, Swing, Country, Latin, English Country Dancing)

studentsREQUIRED WEEKLY MONDAY MEETINGS:

Leadership Training & Social Weekly Business (5:00-5:30)

      -Learn from your peers the most important aspects of leadership and hear about the different events going on that week or in the semester.

     - Meet new people, recruit team members for upcoming events

Separate for Events Meetings (5:30)

      -Choose your level of participation. From Team Member (Someone that wants to be apart of a team for an event) to Manager (Someone who wants to lead a team and delegate the duties of an event).

Social Director- Responsible to oversee all of the events/programs associated with each of their coordinators that they have stewardship over. Directors will have approximately 3 to 4 coordinators depending on the semester. The Director is required to attend three weekly meetings, with additional meetings occurring as well. The Director should expect to put in 10 hours per week. Director is responsible to teach/train/mentor these Coordinators. Their other duties include the following:

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct weekly planning meetings
  2. Attend student activities council meetings
  3. Attend weekly meetings with the Advisor and Area Director
  4. Attend weekly Coordinators Meeting

The Social Coordinators:The coordinators are assigned specific managers that have created events and are put on within Social Activities. Their stewardship includes getting details from the managers and have a detailed plan that helps us know that the events meet the mission statement for Social Activities. Part of this detail plan should also include budget and items that need to either purchase or borrow from our inventory. This will also include AV equipment, tables chairs, or other resources they may need for their event so it can be cleared through their director. It is crucial that they work with the Social Advisor and Social Director for any question regarding policies and procedures to comply with BYUI standards. The Director and Coordinators form a council for Social and the Director leads this council. The coordinator is expected to gain a relationship with the event managers they have stewardship over in order to gain leadership skills.  

Responsibilities

  1. Conduct weekly planning meetings with managerssocial
  2. Attend student activities council meetings (Mondays at 5 p.m.)
  3. Attend weekly meetings with the Director
  4. Attend weekly Coordinators Meeting

Managers

Student Managers are responsible for the planning and execution of events with the help of a council of volunteers. Managers counsel with their Coordinator about their stewardship and how to meet the needs of the students. This includes budget, publicity plan, diagram of how room will be setup, and any resources they will need for their event.
Managers counsel regularly with their Coordinator about the event that the Manger is responsible for and about the growth of the students the Manger has stewardship for.
Managers meet regularly with their council to plan, organize, and run the event they are responsible for.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct weekly planning meetings with team members (volunteers)
  2. Attend student activities council meetings (Mondays at 5 p.m.)
  3. Attend weekly meetings with the Coordinator

RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED:

Teach/Empower/Grow others - Mangers are responsible to teach and empower their volunteers. This includes teaching the
following:

  • The mission and vision of the University and the Activities Program.
  • The mission and vision of your particular area.
  • The structure of the Activities Program.
  • The roles of the student leaders in Activities.
  • The doctrines and principles of disciple- scriptures and how those principles actually doing in their stewardships.
  • The Student-Leader Model.
  • The tactical responsibilities of the Manager position.

Administrative - Recruit and choose members of your council and, in conjunction with their student leaders, plan and execute the events and activities in their area.

  • Understand and apply the Student-Leader Model.
  • Delegate responsibilities.
  • Hold students accountable.
  • Manage the event with the help of their student volunteers.

Counsel

  • Managers counsel regularly with their Coordinator about the event that the Manger is responsible for and about the growth of the students the Manger has stewardship for.
  • Managers meet regularly with their council to plan, organize, and run the event they are responsible for.


Communicate

  • Return and report - Managers are accountable to their Coordinator and need to return and report regularly about their stewardship.
  • Area Communication - Mangers work with their Coordinator to see that effective communication processes are in place.
  • Continuity - Mangers are responsible to see that pertinent information about their event is recorded and saved for future access.
