Swimsuit Policy

Swimmers may wear their own swim suits during open swim times according to the following guidlines:
  • All swimwear must be modest in coverage, style, and cut.
  • Fabrics and colors must not be transparent or revealing.
  • Women's suits must cover the stomach.
  • Swim shorts and shirts may be worn over your suit.
  • Men's suits must sit at the waist (No briefs).
  • All swimmers using their own suits during open swim times must check in at the Equipment Room (Hart 202)

Pool Rules

  • Street shoes can be worn only on the blue mats, not on the deck itself. Shoes or sandals used for "deck shoes" are acceptable.
  • Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Infants must wear swim diapers.
  • No glass containers or food in the pool. Water in plastic containers is acceptable.
  • Lane lines should be the responsibility of the faculty or group using the pool. Lifeguards can assist and supervise, but should not be left alone with the job as their primary responsibility is the safety of the swimmers.
  • No one is allowed in equipment room except faculty, lifeguards and swim coaches.
  • No one is allowed in guard room except faculty and lifeguards.
  • Equipment during open swim: Balls, noodles, kick boards, and pull buoys may be handed out at the lifeguard's disgression. Life jackets can be given to children. Fins are only to be used during lap time.
  • Do not distract the lifeguard on duty.
  • All swimmers must take a cleansing shower before entering the pool.
  • Do not use the pool if you have an open wound or an infectious disease.
  • Please be courteous to other swimmers and do not spit or spout water from your mouth or blow your nose in the pool.
  • No running or rough play allowed.
  • All glass containers and food are prohibited in pool area.
  • Use of flotation devices is restricted to children under 8 years of age who are under direct supervision of an adult.
  • The pool must be immediately closed in cases of fecal contamination or blood release.
  • All accidents and injuries must be reported to the lifeguard or responsible person on duty and the BYU-Idaho Safety Office. 
  • No unsupervised use of the pool is allowed. 
  • If you are subject to seizures or have a handicap, please notify the lifeguard before entering the pool.

Diving Rules

  • Swimmers must be able to swim one length of the pool in order to use the diving board.
  • Only forward motion dives, jumps or flips are permitted.
  • Inwards, reverses and back dives are not permitted.
  • Only one diver is permitted on the diving board at a time.
  • No rough play or running on the diving board.
  • Dives or jumps must be performed straight off the board, not to the side.
  • After diving, swimmers must clear the diving area.
  • Lifeguards may restrict diving privileges if they deem the use of the board to be unsafe.
