Grading categories are a way to organize assignments and improve grading accuracy in I-Learn. If weighted grades are used, then a weight can be assigned to each grading category. Weights can also be assigned to each individual assignment within a category.
If a category does not have assignments in it, then it will not affect the students' overall grades; however, once an assignment is added to a weighted category and receives a grade, it will affect the overall grade.
Category weights can affect the overall grade in seemingly strange ways. For example, if a student has a low grade in a class and receives a 90% on an assignment, that score could still bring the overall grade down. If the grade within the category is above 90%, then entering a lower score will lower the category grade, which in return will lower the overall grade.
