The purpose of an internship is to apply what is learned in a classroom in a real-life setting with oversight from a qualified mentor. Occasionally students, typically non-traditional, own and operate their own business, and apply to receive internship credit for their experience. Careful consideration is given by department internship coordinators, and additional paperwork is required for this "exception".
