Elder Kent and Sister Barbara Michie have been married for almost 38 years. They reside in Salt Lake City where they serve BYU Idaho students as Salt Lake Hub Service Missionaries and Internship Coordinators They enjoy the comfort of four children and eight grandchildren all of whom live reasonably close by.
Sister Michie is a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and hails from Schenectady, New York. She attended Brigham Young University as a non member. She was a primary education (kindergarten) teacher for numerous years prior to the adoption of their two youngest children. Elder and Sister Michie met at a Sunday School picnic.
The Michies recently returned from serving as couple temple ordinance missionaries in the Helsinki Finland Temple.
Elder Michie retired in 2010, having served as Commissioner of Insurance for Utah State government in the cabinets of governors Jon M. Huntsman, Jr. and Gary Herbert. Prior to this five year time of public service, Elder Michie was a young stock broker for eight years and later a vice president of Zions Bank Public Finance acting as an investment banker and financial advisor to such clients as: The State of Utah, Utah Transit Authority, Salt Lake County and numerous other Utah school districts, cities and counties.
Kent is a native of Utah with valued pioneer heritage. He served for 20 years in the Utah National Guard as Command Sergeant Major of the 142d Military Intelligence Battalion. He is the past President of the Wasatch Front Economic Forum and was twice elected as a Republican National Delegate. He also served a four year term on the Salt Lake City Board of Education.
The Michies are members of the Board of Directors of the Salt Lake Chapter of the BYU Management Society. They love to vacation at their lake cottage on Lake Champlain in upstate New York, Barbara's childhood summer home in Essex County.
