What is an Expedition?
Internship expeditions are special trips organized by an academic department designed to assist students in finding an internship or career in specific cities across the country, and will provide students with an opportunity to network and meet with HR managers, hiring managers, and executives from companies in the area. Students will also be introduced to LDS resources such as members, wards, institute, temple location, etc.
How do they Work?
Expedition's are planned by the individual academic apartments, and so students will need to consult with them to get details.
Why Should Students Attend?
The main purpose is to provide students with resources and experience. Most students will not have individual meetings or job interviews during an expedition, although it is a possibility. Doors are opened and students will make connections during the expedition that they can follow up with afterward to pursue opportunities.
Who Can Attend?
Students must meet certain qualifications, submit an application (depending on department) and be accepted to attend.
What do the Internship Service Missionaries Do?
Internship Service Missionaries are called in various hub cities. These missionaries volunteer their time and talents in their home cities to maintain and develop contacts within area companies that could provide internship and career opportunities for BYU-Idaho students. In addition to their contacts and network in the area, they can provide information about their city in general, such as living arrangements, cost of living, LDS wards, and nearby temples.
Missionaries are prepared to discuss student internship and career needs, but their role is not to find students a job - rather to help students locate the resources they need to find positions and assist in ideas for relocation. Students should do preliminary research on the cities and possibilities available to them, and may contact the missionaries at any time for extra assistance.
Missionaries can also help BYU-Idaho staff and faculty plan the annual expedition, making contacts at companies and scheduling visits.
