What is exercise and sports science?

Exercise and sports science concentrates on the study of human movement from developmental, mechanical, motor control, psychosocial, psychological, historical, pathological, and physiological perspectives. Students study everything about the human body, from bones and muscles to skin and tissue. They research nutrition and exercise, learn how to condition the body, examine how diet can affect the body, and learn to understand injury and illness prevention. The program is appropriate for students who plan to work in the fitness and exercise industry, or any other field where human movement and exercise prescription is the focus.

Why should I consider majoring in exercise and sports science?

This degree can serve as the gateway to becoming a physical or occupational therapist, a physician's assistant, or another type of health professional. It works as a solid preparation for post-baccalaureate study in areas such as human growth, aging, athletic training, biomechanics, exercise physiology, health promotion, motor control, or sport psychology. Supporting courses from biology, chemistry, computer science, psychology, health education, and physics may also be included to provide a more in-depth analysis of principles associated with human structure and function.

What interests and values are related to exercise and sports science?

Exercise and sports science majors usually enjoy working out, playing sports, and taking care of their body. They are usually interested in health, biology, and science in general.
