Who is My Advisor? Where Do I Go?

Academic Advising at BYU-Idaho

There are several advising resources on campus to assist you:

1. Academic Discovery Centers

The Academic Discovery Center can assist you with general academic questions, class & graduation planning, course sequencing, academic holds/restrictions, and other academic-related issues and questions.

Contact the appropriate Advising Center by selecting from the categories below.

2. Faculty Mentors

Every student is assigned a Faculty Mentor. The faculty is typically within your college and major, in order to assist you in reaching your ultimate goals. They have the knowledge and experience to help you determine academic and career choices.

  • Visit with your Faculty Mentor for advice on preparing to enter the industry and what to expect from experiential learning.
  • Meet with your Faculty Mentor to learn more about graduate schools and your industry choices.
  • Discuss with your Faculty Mentor any last minute advice on going out into the world, industry tips, and other information you'll need to be successful after graduation.

To find your Faculty Mentor, log on to your My BYUI account, they will be listed in the Academic Summary section.

3. Department Internship Coordinators/Experiential Learning

When it's time for you to complete an internship, a faculty member in your department has been assigned to oversee your experience, provide a syllabus, inform you of department guidelines, etc.

You should visit with your department coordinator before the end of your sophomore year, so when it's time to start searching for an experience, you find one that is appropriate and fits your department's requirements.

To find your coordinator:

  • Department Internship Coordinators
  • Education Majors should visit with the Field Services Office in the Hinckley for information.
  • Nursing students will complete clinicals, and they will assist you with resources.
