Scott Galer serves as the Associate Academic Vice President of Student Success. He came to BYU-Idaho (then Ricks College) in 1998 to establish a Chinese language program. Prior to his current assignment as an Associate Academic Vice President, Scott served as Dean of the College of Language and Letters and Department Chair of Languages and International Studies. He studied Chinese and Business at BYU, earned a Master of Arts in Chinese at the University of Colorado, and a PhD in Chinese and Asian Studies at the University of Wisconsin.

Outside of Brigham Young University-Idaho, Scott was as a Managing Editor for CLEAR: Chinese Literature, Essays, Articles, Reviews; worked as a Director for the China Rural Education Foundation; and was an instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
