Welcome to the BYU-Idaho Writing Center

  • SITE IS CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION. SORRY FOR INCONVENIENCE. WE WILL BE UP AND RUNNING BY MAY 10TH, 2008

  • The Writing Center is a free service for all BYU-Idaho students and faculty. Centrally located on the second floor of the McKay Library, the Center provides a relaxed environment for students to receive help with college writing. Students meet with peer Writing Assistants who provide personalized feedback and support.

  • Assistants help students to analyze their own work—to draft, organize, revise, and edit college-level papers. They work well as an impartial audience.

  • Assistants offer help with essays and research papers, as well as with résumés, cover letters, and proposals. We also answer questions about documentation, usage, and grammar.

  • They are trained to ask questions to stimulate critical thinking and encourage revision.

  • The Center recommends 20-minute sessions, but students may return as often as they wish, even to receive help on the same assignment later the same day.

  •     Important
Assistants are not allowed to proofread student papers; however, they teach grammar principles whenever necessary

I believe one doesn’t teach another to write but leads a friend, through questions and feedback, to discover and explore the landscape of his or her voice until it resonates in others.”                            --Poet Michael Carey

"It doesn't matter how you write the first draft or even the second draft, but it makes all the difference in the world how you write the final draft."
